“New horizons begin to show. I see new horizons approaching and a hope for a new alphabet…” (Marcel Broodthaers)
Galerie Michael Werner, Märkisch Wilmersdorf is pleased to announce an exhibition of nearly 15 works by the Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers (Brussels, 1924 – Cologne, 1976). Broodthaers wrote poems and essays before he started to work in the visual arts at the end of 1963 and adapted this focus on language and words to a large part of his visual oeuvre.
Central to the works that are shown in this exhibition is the relationship between images, objects, writing and meaning. Both sketches for book projects as well as self-contained series like “Les Petits Poissons” are on display.
Marcel Broodthaers has been the subject of more than sixty solo exhibitions worldwide. Following the prominent exhibition at the Fridericianum Kassel from last year, the Museum of Modern Art in New York will open a retrospective in February which later continues to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid and to Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf.
The exhibition at Galerie Michael Werner in Märkisch Wilmersdorf opens 25 January 2016 and remains on view through 24 March 2016. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm. Booking in advance is recommended by phone +49 (0)33731 32010 or email galeriewerner@michaelwerner.de.
